Health Minister, Leo Varadkar is coming under pressure to prioritise Sligo Regional Hospital as the location for the development of a Cardio Catheterisation Lab to service the North West.
The Minister is to discuss the issue later this week in a meeting arranged by Fine Gael Sligo – Leitrim TD, Tony McLoughlin, which other party Oireachtas members have also been invited to attend.
Deputy McLoughlin said he had previously proposed Sligo Regional as a site for the lab in a Parliamentary Question to the Minister in April.
“Whilst his response to me at that time did not rule out my request, it did state that any decision for a fixed elective cardiac catheterisation laboratory in Sligo will be deferred until the service in Altnagelvin in Derry is fully operational.
“I am now seeking an update on this service in Derry, and I will be stating very strongly to the Minister that this region needs to have access to this vital service, a service that other regions in the country already have, and that Co. Sligo is the best location for the facility.”
