Event associated with Yeats festival in Sligo
McLoughlin to press ministers on ‘key issues affecting constituency’
Sligo News File Online.
Cabinet top brass are to visit Sligo later in the month.
According to a press statement, the Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, the Tanaiste and Ministers will be in Lissadell House on 22 July for a meeting connected with celebrations surrounding the 150th anniversary of the birth of WB Yeats.
Yeats was a regular caller to Lissadell, which was the ancestral home of 1916 Revolutionary Countess Markeviez and her sister, Eva Gore Booth.
Sligo County Council is currently faced with a legal bill believed to be around €8 million after losing in court proceedings taken against the authority by owners of Lissadell, Edward Walsh and Constance Cassidy over claimed rights of way through the estate. The council is appealing for government aid to meet the costs.
Commenting on the meeting in Lissadell, local Fine Gael TD, Tony McLoughlin has said he will be using the occasion “to highlight to the relevant ministers a number of key issues which are affecting this constituency.”
These, he said, will include matters “such as the need to upgrade the N4, which many of the Ministers will use whilst travelling to the county, the priority of providing particular services at Sligo Regional Hospital and the development of improved broadband infrastructure for many rural parts of the constituency.”
The meeting announcement “comes on the back of a similar positive announcement which was announced last week regarding the Surf Summit and it further illuminates the real interest there is in Co. Sligo and its environs,” he said.
