Former member of county council believed to be among the injured

A former member of Sligo County Council is believed to have been one of those injured in a fatal road collision involving three vehicles on the N4 about a mile South of Castlebaldwin which claimed the life of a council worker this morning.
The council employee, in his 60s, who was working on the roadside, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was removed to Sligo Regional Hospital.
A man in his 50s was airlifted to University College Hospital, Galway. Two other men also injured in the collision were taken to Sligo Regional Hospital. The Garda Press Office has said in a statement that the injuries of the three have been described as non life threatening.
The road is currently closed as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carry out an examination of the scene. Diversions are expected to remain in force until later this evening.
