A government jet ministers used for visits around the world has been sold to an US buyer. According to reports it needed more repairs than the state could afford.

A Department of Defence spokesperson said the aircraft was disposed of four months ago for €462,000.

The question of a replacement is up for consideration – this is being looked into by a government inter-departmental group. A new model would cost up to €40 million.

Meanwhile, ministers have a Learjet on standby for travel on all those trade missions and St. Patrick’s Day celebrations abroad.
