India identifies hundreds of new Covid-19 strains

‘Strains potentially more infectious and deadly’

Hundreds of mutated Covid-19 strains are said to have been identified in India.

It’s also being reported that the 240 newly detected variants may potentially be much more infectious and more deadly than current strains.

According to comments attributed to health officials, the new strains could as well cause re-infection in already vaccinated people, rendering vaccines much less efficient.

The team leading the fight against the disease state, however, that vaccination is nevertheless essential as, even where it may not stop re-infection, it could make the Covid symptoms much milder.

In Ireland, one further death and 679 new cases of the virus have been confirmed by health authorities this evening.
