Lives Remembered…community figures who have recently passed away

Patrick McHale

A gifted teacher and communicator, Patrick (Paddy) of  Greenacres, Scurmore, passed away at Sligo University Hospital. Former pupils paid tribute to him as a generous and kind figure who made a big impact on their lives and for his care and concern for their educational and social development.

Friends also recall Patrick’s abiding interest in sports. He played GAA with Castleconnor, taking a place on teams with prominent senior players of the parish in the 1950’s, many of them sadly now deceased.

Patrick was strongly behind the development of a GAA facility which was later erected in conjunction with the construction of a community centre in the parish in the early 1980’s. A passionate squash and badminton player, he took part in competitive activities at Ballina Stephenites and many other other venues.

He is survived by nephews, nieces, brother-in-law and other relatives.
