Joe who recently passed away was a member of the well-known and respected Gallagher family of Carrowcarden, Enniscrone. Following in the footsteps of his late parents, he was heavily involved in the farming industry. A kind and thoughtful neighbour, he like other farming men of his generation worked hard doing what he loved best. For some time, Joe also partnered his farmer brother Tommie in the young livestock business, between them turning it into a successful enterprise where personal loyalty to buyers and above all, integrity was at its core.
Joe will be remembered as one of the local community of bright young pupils of his time including the Goodwin, Forde, McDermott, Rafter, Boland and Dowd families – many of them sadly now deceased – who began their education at nearby Carragarry, the now-closed school built in the shadow the Castletown ‘famine’ wall.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Mary Jo (nee Cavanagh, Easkey) brothers Tommy and Jimmy and sister Nancy, Joe is survived by daughters Siobhan and Rachel, son Ronan, daughter-in-law Deirdre, son-in-law Barry, grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
