There was widespread sadness following the death of popular Ballina resident Marie Ferry.
A member of a prominent town family well known in the newspaper industry, Marie was the eldest of six children born to Edwin and Madeleine DeVere (nee Geraghty, Attymass) She passed away peacefully at home following a long illness borne with great dignity and fortitude.
For some years after completing her secondary education, Marie was involved in the local retail industry and commercial marketing business where her ready smile and kind and generous manner endeared her to all with whom she engaged.
The love of her life was Donegal native Brendan. A young graduate, Brendan had moved to take up a position as a laboratory manager at the semi-state Ceimici Teo industry in Corroy, just outside Ballina. Fate brought them together when the beautiful singing voice with which Marie was blessed was in full flight with a captivating rendering to which he was immediately drawn…and from it magically to Marie herself! They became inseparable, afterward marrying and setting up home in Ballina where they reared a wonderful family of seven, some of them now already married themselves.
Marie, who was predeceased by her parents, leaves behind her grieving husband Brendan, and a family she cherished: daughters, Elaine, Leah, Nadine and Kailyn, sons, Edwin, Anthon and Ivan and grandchildren, Hannah, Siofra, Lorcan, Diarmuid and Fiacra.
She is also survived by sisters, Anna, Fiona and Madeleine, brothers, Noel and Edwin, in-laws, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
