Mammography services are finally to be laid on at Sligo General
Hospital. For years, former Minister for Small Business John Perry fought an exhaustive campaign to pull off the development. However, his efforts failed to persuade health ministers to give an ear to the case for the urgently needed operation.
News that the service is now, at last, to be launched with effect from later this month is being welcomed by those who have fought year on year to have it restored. The mobile unit, to be located on the grounds of the hospital will be available for cancer patients “5 years post treatment” commencing, it is understood, on 14 November.
