Decision ‘not an indication move will lead to closure of any library’
Sligo News File Online.
Curtailment of library services in Sligo should not be taken as an indication the action will lead to any library facility being closed, Sligo County Council has stated.
Concerns have been raised following the unavailability of service at the library in Sligo town last Saturday.
The council has said Saturday closure is a temporary measure,
owing to staff shortages where it may not be possible to maintain the service for the same number of hours as at present.
A Financial Plan is under review to address the council’s
prevailing multimillion euro debt load.
Meanwhile, there have been questions as to whether the council can afford to proceed with a proposal to shoulder the debt load of the airport at Knock if it is so financially hard hit that it hasn’t the manpower resources to sustain Saturday services at libraries in the county.
